Take a trip around the world with us in the heart of Oakland!
If you’ve never taken a tour of the University of Pittsburgh’s Nationality Rooms, what better reason than as a prelude to our seventh season opener, the national anthems? These beautiful spaces were designed to represent the various cultures that have settled in Allegheny County over the course of its history. Our pre-concert guided tour will take you through a selection of the rooms, chosen to draw compelling parallels to the vibrant multicultural music you will hear in our program!
In addition to David Lang’s seminal work from which our program takes its name, the performances will showcase compositions that draw inspiration from a diversity of cultures including Finland, South Africa, Estonia, Peru, Scotland, Armenia, Indonesia, Bengal, Mexico, China and America.
Architecture and music are so often compared to one another, and we hope that you will join us for the complete experience we have in store for you! Stepping through the Nationality Rooms reminds us not only of Pittsburgh’s diverse cultural heritage, but also of the important landmarks we have ensconced in our community. Similarly, the wonderful pieces featured on our program preserve their cultural perspectives in the living medium of music!
Single tickets are now on sale for our entire season, and we are all enthusiastically looking forward to having you with us for this exciting journey!
The musical prelude and Nationality Room tour will begin in the Cathedral of Learning at 6:45 pm on Saturday November 2, and at 1:45 pm on Sunday November 3. Choose this option when purchasing your tickets.
